How to make a genogram
- 1. Add the index person (the individual the genogram centers on).
- 2. Use Add parents, Add partner, and Add child to build out three generations.
- 3. Select a person and tap Connect to another person, then tap a second to set a couple or emotional relationship — close, distant, conflict, cut-off (or Shift-click on desktop).

Genogram maker vs. family tree maker
A family tree maker records descent — names, dates, branches. A genogram maker carries a second layer on top of that structure. It draws the emotional relationships (close, distant, conflict, cut-off), the double-walled frame marking the index person, deceased markers, and couple lines that distinguish marriage from cohabitation from divorce. A general drawing app or a genealogy site can place squares and circles. But it will not keep children ordered left to right by birth, hold each generation on its own row, or draw a cut-off line a supervisor recognizes on sight.
