Privacy Policy
GenogramTool is built to be private by default. This policy explains what we do and do not collect.
Where your genograms are stored
If you are not signed in, the genograms you build are saved only in your browser's local storage, on your own device. They are not uploaded to our servers, and we cannot see them. Clearing your browser data removes them, and using a different device or browser starts fresh.
If you create an account and sign in, your genograms are saved to your account so you can reopen them from any device and pick up where you left off. They are stored in our database on secure, access-controlled infrastructure, encrypted in transit and at rest, and are private to your account — only you can view or edit them. We never sell them or share them with third parties, and we do not access their contents except where strictly necessary to operate or troubleshoot the service, or where required by law.
You stay in control: deleting a genogram removes it from our servers, and deleting your account removes all of your saved genograms. Because genograms can contain sensitive family information, only store details you are authorized to handle — see our disclaimer.
Information we collect
- Account information — if you sign up, your email address and either a securely hashed password (we never store your password in plain text) or, if you use Google sign-in, the name and email address Google shares with us. We use a secure, http-only cookie to keep you signed in.
- Your genograms — when signed in, stored privately to your account as described above.
- Contact information — only if you email us, and only to reply.
- Payment information — purchases are processed by Stripe. We never receive or store your full card details; Stripe handles payment data under its own privacy terms.
- Usage analytics — we use Google Analytics 4 to see how the site is used (which pages are visited, device type, and approximate location derived from your IP address). It sets cookies and collects standard usage data, which we review only in aggregate — never to identify you personally, and never linked to the contents of your genograms.
Cookies and analytics
We use Google Analytics 4, which sets cookies to measure visits. No part of the genograms you build is ever sent to Google. You can opt out by blocking cookies in your browser, by installing Google's opt-out add-on, or by turning on Do Not Track. See Google's privacy policy for details on how it processes data.
What we never do
We do not sell your data. We never use the contents of your genograms for advertising or share them with third parties. Genograms you save to an account are private to you; genograms you build while signed out never leave your device at all.
